Which units should I use? Common data entry mistakes

Enter electricity in kWh, for one full year, for one site.

The most common mistakes we see:

  • kWh vs MWh mix-ups. A factory rarely uses only a few hundred kWh per year. If your number looks very small or very large, check the unit.
  • Group totals for a single site. Enter the data for one factory only, not for your whole company group.
  • Decimal and thousands separators. Enter plain numbers, for example 1250000 — not 1.250.000 or 1,250,000.
  • Fuel under electricity. Gas, coal, and biomass usually belong under Heat (see the article above).
  • Missing heat. If your factory does dyeing, washing, printing, or scouring, these steps usually need steam or hot water. Check if a fuel is missing.
